Drug Store Beauty Products I Keep Buying

by Monday, July 10, 2017

Anyone who knows me knows I don’t like spending money on things.  I wouldn’t say I’m cheap, but I sort of am.  I just don’t love the idea of spending a ton on something that I can buy elsewhere for less…or spending so much on a product just because it is “high end”.

That being said, when I do spend money on things that are more high end, I make sure it is because I absolutely love it- need it- can’t be without it.  And because I am so frugal, my list of expensive things I need tends to be small, which makes my life a little easier.

I am SUCH a product junkie- I will try anything and can’t wait to get my hands on the latest things.  Because of my semi-crazy product obsession, I have become somewhat of an expert and figuring out what works and if it’s worth it’s price tag.  Again, the “worth its price tag” list tends to be short in my book.

I am no stranger to drug store beauty products- in fact there are some that I use every day and rely on year after year…the ones I keep going back to because why change it if it ain’t broke?

I also find myself in small towns very often for work- movies always tend to bring me to tiny towns with not much in them other than a CVS, so I have to improvise when a product runs out and figure out a cheap-o replacement for the time being.  In fact, this is how I have found some of my beauty staples at drug stores!

SOO without further ado, here they are!

Drug Store Beauty Ride-Or-Dies

Ponds Cold Cream

I have been using this product for SO long.  I just love it.  I use it at night to remove my makeup- and it never fails to get every last smudge off my face, even stubborn mascara!  I put some on my fingertips, and start massaging it all over my face and neck.  I pay close attention to my eyes to gently remove all eye makeup.  I do this for a good 30-60 seconds.  Then, I take a washcloth, run it under warm water and wring it out lightly.  I put the warm cloth on my face and then proceed to gently wipe away the cream.  The warm, wet towel helps sort of melt everything off and it just feels f-ing amazing.  The cream brings the makeup, dirt and debris along with it leaving my skin clean, glowing and moisturized.  This won’t strip your skin like some removers!

L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara

This is one of my favorite mascaras ever.  I always end up going back to it- its sold everywhere and it lasts a long time on my eyes (AKA no clumpy flakes all over your cheeks).  My eyelashes are naturally pretty long, so I am looking to add darkness and thickness when I use mascara.  I wiggle the wand at the roots of my lashes, moving up and out to the tips.  I do this over and over on each eye until I achieve the drama I am looking for.  I love mascara, so a few coats does it for me!

L’Oreal Sublime Glow Daily Moisturizer

My tan is fake.  You probably already know this.  I am a self tan queen and this product is one I have been loving on for SOOO many years.  I think I started using this when I was like…19 so, holy shit!  I have been using this for 9 years!  If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it right??

Well, this is a daily moisturizer that adds a gradual, natural tan to your skin.  I like it in between my self tan sessions to prolong color and add a little bit of shine.  There is a very fine shimmer to this lotion- barely noticeable, but when you’re in the light you just glow.  Like beach goddess status.  I also love how much color it adds naturally- never too much- AND it smells like heaven.  A lot of gradual tanners smell terrible, so this one really stands apart.

Palmers Cocoa Butter

Puffin is just as obsessed with this as I am.  Literally.  He may even like it more than I do.  Whenever I put it on, he goes nuts!  I could be upstairs, and he could be in the garage and he would SOMEHOW smell it and come running to attack me with licks.  I try to get dressed super fast when I wear this though because I don’t want him licking off all of my favorite lotion!  It also can’t be good for him to do that right??

It is the best moisturizer post-sun.  It is thick, just how I like my moisturizers, and it sinks in so well to hydrate you head to toe.  If you’re out in the sun a lot, it also helps repair skin and keep you from peeling.  Plus, it smells like dessert and is buttery smooth!  I even put it all over face in the winter (especially in dry areas like under my nose) to keep myself dewy and soft.

L’Oreal Feline Mascara

New favorite mascara alert!!  I got this little babe in a gift bag sometime recently and I LOVE it!!  I’m picky about my mascara and this one is very similar to my favorite L’Oreal Voluminous but with a little something extra.  It makes me look like I’m wear fake lashes!  It adds so much length, darkness and volume it’s crazy.  I have been buying it ever since and so far none of my tubes have flaked or gotten gross too soon, so thumbs up on this new formula!

Garnier Skinactive Cucumber Makeup Removing Towelettes

I like to have some makeup removing towels on hand just in case.  Sometimes I’m just a little too lazy or I want to wipe off my makeup without having to do a full on wash.  These are great for that- they get rid of makeup and they smell really refreshing.  A cucumber towel just makes me happy.

Chapstick Total Hydration Tinted balm in Sweet Peach

I also go this in a gift bag recently!  And I love it!  This isn’t your normal grade school ChapStick though…the brand seems to have come along way.  These tinted balms are so silky and moisturizing and the colors are so pretty.  Just enough color, without being too much- I end up wearing this most days!  The Sweet Peach color is my favorite and it has a nice fruity taste to it too.  Plus it is SUPER inexpensive!

Neutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser

Another product I have been using since I was maybe 17 or 18 years old.  I use other cleansers too so this isn’t my one and only, but I always have it at home.  I love cream cleansers, obviously, but this one just feels extra nice.  It has a tingling effect that feels fresh and good on my skin, and it does a good job of removing all my makeup.  I rub this all over my face and let it sit for about a minute before washing away with warm water and patting dry.  I wouldn’t recommend removing eye makeup with it though because the tingling sensation doesn’t really feel too good on the eyes.

What are your drug store go-to’s??  Comment below- I’m always looking for a new favorite thing!
