‘Tis the season for a warm cocktail and a home that smells like holiday goodness.
I had never made a mulled wine before- I have certainly drank them at other peoples parties (duh), but never dabbled in making my own. I did some research, found some recipes that looked good, cut the sugar in half and Voila! I came up with my own recipe that tastes delicious, spicy and cozy with half the sugar.
I will be serving it this Christmas and keeping it warm all night in my crockpot on the “warm” setting. Love that you can make this wine and then pop it in the slow cooker so you don’t have to tend to it all night. Little things that make life and hosting a little bit easier!
◊◊◊◊◊ CANDLE GIVEAWAY ALERT ◊◊◊◊◊
I teamed up with my friends over at Votivo to give away a bundle (over a $75 value!!!) of my favorite candle scent: Red Current. If you aren’t familiar with this scent already, it is SOOO amazing: not too strong, not too light and it smells super sexy. People literally come into my house and immediately go “what is that scent?!?” when I have them burning! It’s a great scent for any time of the year, but it feels extra special during winter and around the holidays.
Votivo came out with a gorgeous Red Currant Holiday Collection which features mercury glass like the one in my photos, a black studded candle and some high shine silver designs that sparkle for the holidays.

And now for that wine recipe…
This recipe is good for a party, but if you are making it for a small crowd, or just you and a friend (hey, no judgement here!) just cut the recipe in half!
Spiced Mulled Wine
2 bottles of dry red wine
3 cinnamon sticks
1 tablespoon whole cloves
2 tsp whole allspice (you can omit this if you can’t find it!)
1 orange sliced into large rounds
3-4 tablespoons brown sugar (depends how sweet you like yours)
1/3 cup brandy OR bourbon whiskey
Cinnamon sticks and orange rinds for garnish (optional)
In a large heavy saucepan over medium heat, combine the red wine, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, orange slices and brandy/bourbon. Heat slowly. DO NOT bring to a boil- if you do you will cook off all the alcohol…and then whats the point?!?
Stir in 3 tablespoons of the sugar, then taste and add more if needed.
Keep hot on low heat for 20-30 minutes to let the spices infuse the wine. OR put it in the crock pot on low or warm to keep it toasty all night (or day). Serve in mugs or thick glasses, garnish with cinnamon sticks and orange rind.
