Creamsicles- A nostalgic summer treat…the orange, the vanilla, the icey-coldness of it on a hot day…YUM! My newest favorite protein shake recipe is inspired by this classic summer favorite- but without all the added sugar and not so healthy aspects!
I also am such a sucker for protein shakes that taste like dessert. Makes my sweet tooth happy!
My Creamsicle Protein Smoothie is great for breakfast, post workout or whenever you are craving a dessert-esque healthy treat! I used fresh oranges from my orange tree in my backyard- they are super sweet this time of year, and if you can squeeze your own for this recipe, it’ll be that much better! I’m pretty obsessed with squeezing my own orange juice now, so I have been doing it any chance I get! I made a killer orange cocktail this weekend for a party that I will post soon- so keep an eye out for that little number!
Loaded with tons of protein from your favorite protein powder, vitamin C from the oranges, and potassium from the banana- it is a healthy drink you can feel good about…and the best part: its SO insanely yummy you can’t even tell how healthy it really is!
Creamsicle Protein Smoothie
1 scoop vanilla protein powder ( I used Vega)
1/2 cup fresh squeezed orange juice
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 banana (or frozen banana for some extra slushy goodness!)
3/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
4-5 ice cubes
Put all ingredients except ice into the blender. Blend on medium speed until combined, then add ice and continue to blend until ice is crushed and slushy. Serve with an orange wedge and enjoy!
