We’ve all heard this before: take the stairs to to stay more active…to add a little bit of exercise in whenever you can…to get a better butt..etc etc. But I actually DO take the stairs pretty much any time they are an option…and honestly, they are usually always an option!
I will be that person lugging a suitcase up flights of stairs in the airport, or running up subway stairs instead of taking the escalator during rush hour…it makes me feel good, gets my heart pumping, and I love knowing that I’m doing a little good for my back region even if it is just a short little set of stairs! It’s like getting a quick, completely free workout in the middle of the day, or whenever you choose to!
It has be discovered that people who opt to take the stairs will typically make a habit of choosing healthier options in other parts of their lives too..so adopt some good habits!
Now to take it further: enter Stair Workouts. Stair climbing workouts are super challenging, can be done indoor or outdoors, and are an AMAZING cardio workout- not just great for your ass! A 130 lb person burns an average of 400 calories in 30 minutes of stair climbing! That’s a lot! Up the intensity by trying to jog or run up the stairs, or on the stair climber at your gym. I have been trying out some different outdoor stair climbing hikes in Los Angeles recently- and I gotta say, I’m pretty impressed by how much I love it! Its a cardio, booty burning challenge while spending time outside. I’ll even go with a friend or two and make a workout date out of it! I’ve also noticed a few stair climbing group fitness studios popping up recently, which I plan to try out soon- sounds like a hard class to me!
