Has an airline ever left your bag behind when you take a trip? This has happened to me WAY too many times and oh man, it’s sort of the worst! Not only do you have to deal with the stress of a lost bag and the frustration that comes with dealing with the airline about the problem…you’re also now stuck without all your stuff! Now, if you are traveling home, it may not be a big deal, but if your are going on a vacation or a work trip- a lost bag can almost ruin the entire trip!
On my holiday trip to Costa Rica my bag was left behind in NYC and I didn’t get it until THREE FULL DAYS LATER!! SO annoying.
But I was sort of lucky because I planned ahead for this trip. Knowing that holiday travel is often a nightmare, I decided to put some essentials in my carry-on…juuuust in case….and I was SOOO happy I did!
From now on, I’m always going to do this because it really is a life saver if something goes wrong. It takes a bit more planning than the usual “throw everything in my big bag and go” routine, but it’s well worth it.
Here’s what to put in a carryon so you can survive a few days without your luggage in a worst case scenario:
-3 spare sets of undergarments and socks
-travel sized face wash and lotion
-chargers for all electronics- and I always bring my tablet, phone and laptop onboard with me
-2 T-shirts or tank tops
-an extra pair of jeans, leggings or shorts
-hair brush or comb
-a pair of sandals or comfy shoes/sneakers (I bring cute flats or my converse)
-toothbrush and travel sized toothpaste
-small makeup bag stocked with beauty essentials
-any and ALL medications you may need
I usually travel in leggings, a t-shirt, hoodie, sneakers and my leather jacket…so with all of that combined I’m good to go for a few days. Its not ideal, but it works in an emergency.
Also- plan ahead based on your trip schedule. Are you going to be on the beach? Pack a bathing suit. Going to a party the night you land? Bring a dress and heels. Think ahead and be prepared. You don’t want to land and have to go rushing off to buy something quickly and haphazardly! Ive done this before and am never satisfied with my “I guess this will have to do” purchase!
